The thinking behind creating Man On was always to bring a bit more fun to the screens and timelines of our audience, led by an army of glamour models.
But we also wanted to ensure we are able to use our platform for fantastic causes, and this is certainly one of those occasions.
It’s been announced that the incredible military charity Help For Heroes – which supports wounded veterans and their families – are to keep three recovery centres in Yorkshire, Devon and Essex closed indefinitely and will make redundancies after being severely hit by the coronavirus pandemic.
The charity relies on donations for 97% of its funding, which has dropped by a third – at a time when demand for their services rose by a third during lockdown, as veterans sought help with mental health and physical issues.
You can find out more about Help For Heroes’ current situation by reading their latest services update.
Of course we are well aware that the entire charity sector has been devastated during the pandemic, and our heart goes out to everyone affected. But given we are born out of the ashes of lads’ mags – which always had extremely close ties to our Armed Forces and charities such as Help For Heroes – we are keen to raise awareness to help them however we can.
Help For Heroes have also long been linked with glamour via the famous Hot Shots calendar, which raised money for the charity. Over the years their legendary calendars have featured just about every Page 3 girl you could think of, including Kelly Hall, Rosie Jones, Emma Glover, Holly Peers, Daisy Watts, Jess Davies, Lucy Pinder and India Reynolds to name just a few.
And here’s what they got up to behind the scenes for the 2014 calendar shoot:
Hot Shots’ final 2020 calendar is still available for purchase via their website.
Man On fully intends to maintain these close ties between lads’ mags, glamour, the military and supporting charities. So we would like to warmly encourage everyone to visit the Help For Heroes website to find out more about the incredible work they do supporting veterans.
You can also donate directly on the website. The Man On team will be doing their part and making a donation.
We know this is an incredibly difficult time for everyone, but your support will be massively appreciated to assist Help For Heroes in continuing their amazing work.
Thank you.
